The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive later this month at the Orange Beach Adult Fitness Center, giving local residents a chance to donate blood, platelets or AB Elite plasma. The drive is scheduled for Friday, July 24, from 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the facility’s training room at 4847 Wilson Blvd.
Walk-ins are welcome, though the Red Cross said scheduled appointments will be honored first. Residents who want to reserve a time can schedule an appointment online at redcrossblood.org or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) ahead of the event.
The Red Cross is encouraging donations throughout the summer months, when patient need for blood products continues even as donations typically slow down. As an incentive, anyone who donates blood, platelets or AB Elite plasma between July 13 and July 31 may receive a Fandango Movie Ticket by email, valued at up to $15 toward a ticket and fees.
The blood drive gives Orange Beach residents a local option to donate during the afternoon and early evening hours, held indoors in the fitness center’s training room rather than in a mobile unit outside.
