Baldwin County Began H1N1 Testing in April 2009

James Bullard, April 28, 2009

Baldwin County health officials said in April 2009 that at least one flu test was underway for possible H1N1, then commonly called swine flu.

The report came as the state examined several flu samples. Gulf Shores Fire Department officials said rumors of a local epidemic were false and that they had not seen an increase in flu-related calls.

Pharmacies reported heavy public interest and questions about flu prevention. Local officials urged residents not to panic and to contact health-care professionals with questions.

This is a historical account of a local public-health response in April 2009. It is not current medical guidance, case data or advice about influenza treatment or prevention.
