MOBILE, Ala. — Prospective students and curious neighbors got an up-close look at a hands-on career path on Monday, Nov. 2, when Bishop State Community College opened its barbering and hairstyling programs to the public.
The open house highlighted training that can lead to professional licenses and small-business ownership.
Guests toured the facility, watched student demonstrations and spoke with current students, faculty and staff about education and career options in the field.
One student who spoke about the program encouraged others to pursue their interests and take the next step toward a career.
“I would say to definitely follow your heart and go ahead and take that leap of faith because when you’re doing something you enjoy, it doesn’t feel like work,” the student said. “And it’s a good way to steward and be involved in the community as well as making a career.”
