Witness Describes ‘Horrible’ Crash Between Mobile Police SUV and Car at Cottage Hill and Hillcrest Roads
A witness says a Mobile police SUV with its emergency lights on went through a red light at Hillcrest Road and was hit Saturday, then landed on its side. Police say the crash remains under investigation.
MOBILE, Ala. — A woman driving on Cottage Hill Road on Saturday described a “horrible” collision between a car and a Mobile police vehicle.
The crash happened at about 1:15 p.m. at the intersection of Cottage Hill and Hillcrest roads. The Mobile Police Department said Monday the wreck remains under investigation to determine what happened and declined to offer further details.
Angie Walker, of Mobile, said she saw two police vehicles pass her with their emergency lights on.
“I saw blue lights coming up behind me, and actually, I know because I thought, ‘Oh God, am I speeding?'” she said.
Walker said one of the police SUVs went through a red light at the intersection with Hillcrest Road and barely slowed down.
“And before I could even get the thought out of my head, I thought, you know, ‘Oh my God; oh my God. I hope nobody hits him coming through there,’ and they did,” she said. “They hit him. I literally saw the front end of the SUV fly up in the air. I swear it looked like slow motion. And then he landed on the side of the – vehicle landed on its side. … It really freaked me out.”
Police have not publicly confirmed Walker’s account or released information on injuries.
