Judge Denies Bond Reduction for Marchelle Pertilla in Child Abuse, Animal Cruelty Case
A Mobile County judge denied a request to lower the bond for Marchelle Pertilla, who faces child abuse and animal cruelty charges tied to a house in Prichard.
MOBILE, Ala. — A Mobile County judge has denied a request to lower the bond of Marchelle Pertilla, a woman charged with child abuse and animal cruelty in a case involving a house in Prichard.
Prosecutors allege Pertilla and her husband, Eugene Medrano, kept dogs in inhumane conditions. They say the couple abandoned five dogs in the house: a boxer, a golden retriever, a pit bull and two Great Pyrenees. Prosecutors also allege the couple left a 14-year-old girl there unattended.
A judge had previously cut Pertilla’s bond to $1,000 on five animal cruelty counts, while leaving in place $15,000 on an aggravated animal cruelty charge and $30,000 on a child abuse charge.
Her attorney argued she still cannot afford to make bail, but the judge denied the request.
Pertilla is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
