The man accused in Mobile’s first homicide of 2019 appeared in court Tuesday for a bond hearing. Prosecutors say Jarante Williams shot and killed his roommate, Jermaine Lee, at a home on Athey Road after Lee tried to break up an argument.

According to prosecutors, Williams was arguing with another person when Lee intervened to defuse the situation. Williams then allegedly shot Lee, killing him. The incident marked Mobile’s first homicide of the new year.

Williams was taken into custody and appeared before a judge for a bond hearing. The case is being handled by the Mobile County District Attorney’s office.
