Man Hospitalized After Being Struck With Hammer in Domestic Violence Incident, Mobile Police Say
A man was taken to the hospital after Mobile police say he was struck with a hammer by a woman he knew, in an incident now being charged as domestic violence and remains under investigation.
A man was taken to the hospital Saturday morning after Mobile police say he was struck with a hammer by a woman he knew, in a case investigators are treating as domestic violence.
According to a Mobile Police Department news release, officers were called to the 1700 block of Butler Street just after 1:30 a.m. Saturday in reference to an assault. When officers arrived, they found a man with non-life-threatening injuries, who was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
During the investigation, the man told officers that a woman he knew had struck him with a hammer during the encounter. Police say the woman, who has not been publicly identified, faces charges of second-degree domestic violence and second-degree assault.
The investigation remains active, and no arrests had been announced as of Monday. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Mobile Police Department.
About the charges
Under Alabama law, second-degree domestic violence is a Class B felony. Second-degree assault, which covers causing physical injury to another person with a deadly weapon or dangerous instrument, among other circumstances, is a Class C felony.
