After more than a year of construction, Mardi Gras Park opened to the public in downtown Mobile in January 2018, according to WKRG.
Mayor Sandy Stimpson and the Mobile Carnival Association marked the opening of the park between Government Plaza and the History Museum of Mobile.
Stimpson said the park could become a central corridor for visitors as downtown attractions developed. The city was also seeking funding for a second phase, including a pavilion with an open-air market, estimated at $2.5 million.
