Mobile police are investigating a violent early-morning home invasion that left one man wounded after the resident he allegedly attacked fought back with a firearm.
According to police, officers were called to a residence in the 5700 block of Jackson Road shortly before 6 a.m. after four men forced their way into the home and assaulted the resident with a baseball bat. During the struggle, the resident was able to reach a gun and fired at one of the intruders, striking him in the chest. Both the resident and the wounded suspect were taken to a hospital for treatment. The suspect was initially listed in critical condition before being upgraded to stable.
A Mobile Police Department spokesman confirmed the basic details of the incident but said it remained under active investigation, with no arrests announced in the days following the attack. Police did not release the identities of those involved.
