Mobile police are investigating the death of a 6-year-old boy whose body was found inside a unit at the Oak Knoll Apartments after officers were called to a report of an unconscious woman elsewhere in the city.
According to the Mobile Police Department, officers responded shortly before noon on a Wednesday to the parking lot of the At Home Furniture Store on Schillinger Road South after receiving a call about an unresponsive woman. Arriving officers found a 44-year-old woman unconscious in the lot. She was rushed to a local hospital with injuries described as life-threatening.
As investigators worked to determine what led to the woman’s condition, they developed information indicating she may have been involved in the death of her 6-year-old son. That lead sent officers to her home at 1302 Navco Road, an address inside the Oak Knoll Apartments complex, where they found the boy dead inside the apartment.
Homicide detectives and investigators with the Mobile Police Department’s major crimes unit were called to the apartment to process the scene and gather evidence as part of what remains an active and ongoing investigation. Officers have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the child’s death or the nature of the woman’s injuries while the case is being reviewed.
