One man was killed and three others were injured in three weekend incidents in Mobile. Police are asking for tips, while preliminary FBI figures show the city's violent crime is down about 9% this year.
MOBILE, Ala. — Mobile police spent the weekend responding to a series of violent incidents, including two shootings and a stabbing that together left one man dead and three others injured.
Investigators say all three cases remain open. They come as newly reported FBI data show reported violent crime in the city trending down over the same period last year.
Fatal shooting on Lincoln Street
The first of the shootings happened about 1 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, in the 1700 block of Lincoln Street in the Trinity Gardens area of north Mobile. Officers found 26-year-old Tavaress Collins with life-threatening injuries. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
A home and a vehicle in the area were also struck by gunfire, but no other injuries were reported. Police have not identified a suspect. According to local data, Collins’ death marks Mobile’s 27th homicide of the year.
Stabbing at Billiards Club
Shortly before the Lincoln Street shooting, officers responded to Billiards Club on Government Boulevard after reports of a stabbing. Police said an argument between two groups escalated into a fight, and at some point a man pulled out a knife and cut two other men. Neither man’s injuries were considered life-threatening.
Man shot while walking on Karagan Drive
The third incident came about 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, in the 2500 block of Karagan Drive. When officers arrived, they learned the victim had already been taken to a hospital in a personal vehicle.
Investigators determined that he was walking on the street when someone in an unknown vehicle opened fire and struck him. His injuries were not considered life-threatening.
