An elderly woman visited by family at a nursing homeA Mobile woman applied for a nursing home job to see her mother.

A Mobile real estate broker is applying for a job at her mother’s nursing home for one reason: she wants to be allowed inside to see her.

Sheila Yarborough said she had not seen her 84-year-old mother, Emma Sumrall, in five months. Because only employees are permitted inside the facility, Yarborough decided to apply for work there herself.

“I want to go to work here. I can sweep, I can cut grass, I can do whatever needs to be done so that I can see my mom,” she said, adding that the plan was for the home to hire her as a weekend receptionist.

Yarborough said she was shaken three weeks earlier when the nursing home called around midnight to say her mother had fallen out of bed and needed a CT scan at the hospital. A week later, Sumrall tested positive for COVID-19. Yarborough said she knows the staff is doing all it can, but she is ready to get inside and see her mother for herself.
