A recent analysis ranked Mobile as the seventh most overweight and obese city in the United States.
The personal finance website WalletHub compared 100 U.S. cities across 19 metrics, including access to healthy food, the share of physically inactive adults and projected 2030 obesity rates.
Mobile finished 25th for its obesity and overweight ranking but placed first in the nation for health consequences tied to obesity, the study found.
Among other Alabama cities, Huntsville came in at No. 35 and the Birmingham-Hoover area at No. 24. The Birmingham-Hoover area also ranked fourth for the highest percentage of adults with high blood pressure.
Nationally, McAllen, Texas; Shreveport, Louisiana; Memphis, Tennessee; Jackson, Mississippi; Knoxville, Tennessee; and Tulsa, Oklahoma all ranked ahead of Mobile. Nashville, Tennessee; Columbia, South Carolina; and Lafayette, Louisiana rounded out the top 10.
