United States Coast Guard cutter on coastal water

Coast Guard Sector Mobile Command Center in 2009

James Bullard, November 5, 2009

Coast Guard Sector Mobile’s command center served as an information hub for emergencies and other maritime operations, according to a 2009 WKRG report.

Officials described using radio traffic, telephone calls and electronic databases to plan responses involving aircraft or waterborne crews. The report also followed the cutter Stingray and noted the sector’s work protecting ports, waterways and critical infrastructure.

Search and rescue was described as the unit’s top mission. Sector Mobile reported a then-record 705 search-and-rescue cases that year.

This is a historical summary of a 2009 local report. Current operations and statistics may have changed.
