South Alabama Moves Football Broadcasts to Lite Mix 99.9 in Three-Year Clear Channel Deal
A three-year agreement with Clear Channel moves South Alabama football radio broadcasts to Lite Mix 99.9 WMXC and puts men's basketball, baseball and coaches shows on NewsRadio 710 WNTM, all streamed on iHeartRadio.
MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama radio broadcasts are moving to Clear Channel. The university and athletics director Joel Erdmann announced Monday a three-year partnership that moves Jaguars football games from 105.5 FM WNSP to Lite Mix 99.9 FM WMXC.
Coaches’ radio shows, men’s basketball and baseball games will air on NewsRadio 710 AM WNTM. All of the broadcasts will also stream through Clear Channel Media + Entertainment’s iHeartRadio app for smartphones and tablets.
The initial three-year contract includes a provision to extend the agreement.
Change From WNSP
All of the same programming previously aired on 105.5 WNSP and streamed through that station’s website and mobile applications.
Football will be the only South Alabama programming on Lite Mix 99.9. The station’s signal extends the reach of Jaguars football broadcasts farther into Florida and Mississippi and north into Alabama.
Erdmann: “Broadcast Reach” a Priority
“We are excited about this partnership and the opportunities it provides for our department,” Erdmann said. “Of significance is the broadcast reach for our football games, and priority broadcasting for the men’s basketball and baseball programs. The iHeartRadio application provides dependable and easy-to-access free broadcasts of our games nationally on digital radio, smartphones, tablets and home computers.”
Erdmann said the ability to market and cross-promote South Alabama athletics on Clear Channel’s various stations was also part of the appeal.
Station: “A Natural for Us”
“This partnership is a natural for us. Many of the great people who work here at Clear Channel Mobile are USA alumni and fans, and we’re all excited to bring the games to Jag Nation and our Gulf Coast community,” said Dan Mason, program director for Lite Mix 99.9 and NewsRadio 710 WNTM.
Mason said every football game will air live on Lite Mix 99.9, which he said has the most powerful FM signal between Tampa and New Orleans, and that games and coaches’ shows for all three sports will be available at iHeartRadio.com.
First Broadcast at Kent State
The first football broadcast under the new deal will be South Alabama’s game at Kent State on Saturday, Sept. 6, with kickoff set for 1 p.m. Dates and times for the Joey Jones Radio Show have not been announced.
