Spanish Fort Police Arrested Florida Homicide Suspect in 2008

James Bullard, June 6, 2008

Spanish Fort police arrested a man wanted in connection with a Florida homicide in June 2008, according to WKRG.

Deputies alleged that Luis Vargas had shot and killed his business partner, Mariela Escudero, after an argument in Oakland Park, Florida. Vargas and his niece were located after their vehicle broke down off Interstate 10 in Spanish Fort.

Police said the niece was initially identified as a missing person. Vargas was expected to return to Florida to face a murder charge, while the niece was held in Baldwin County on a charge of hindering the investigation.

This is a historical account of law-enforcement allegations and charges reported in 2008. It does not state final court outcomes.
