Foley’s Tacos & Tequila Festival Postponed to Nov. 7-8 at Heritage Park Due to Storm Threat

FOLEY, Ala. — The Tacos & Tequila Festival will not take place this weekend. Organizers have pushed the event back one month because of the threat of severe weather on the Gulf Coast, moving it to Saturday, Nov. 7, and Sunday, Nov. 8.

The festival had been scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 3, and Sunday, Oct. 4. According to a press release from organizer Beach Life Events, the venue does not change: the festival will still be held at Heritage Park in downtown Foley.

“While we are a rain or shine event and disappointed that the possible severe thunderstorms had other plans for this weekend, the safety and enjoyment of our guests, vendors, entertainers, and staff are our top priority,” said Lisa Yeater, president of Beach Life Events. “We’re excited to bring all the tacos, tequila, live music, family fun, artists, crafters and festival excitement back to Heritage Park in November!”

Organizers have not yet released hours or a performance schedule for the November dates. Anyone planning to attend should check with Beach Life Events for updated times and to confirm whether the original entertainment lineup, including the Sunday set by the Velcro Pygmies, carries over to the new weekend.

The Tacos & Tequila Festival returns to Foley this fall, taking over Heritage Park at 200 N. McKenzie St. for two days of food, drink, live music and family activities.

Original Dates and Hours

Before the postponement, the festival had been set to run Saturday, Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 4, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Tickets are $5, and admission is free for children 12 and under.

The Food

All food vendors will serve tacos or Hispanic dishes along with other menu items, giving the event a consistent culinary theme rather than the general festival-food mix common at outdoor events.

That focus is the point of a single-subject food festival. When every vendor is working within the same broad category, attendees can compare approaches directly across a lineup — different proteins, different tortillas, different salsas — in a way a general food festival does not allow.

Food trucks and snack vendors will be on site in addition to the taco vendors.

The Drinks

Multiple bars will serve tequila drinks along with beer and wine.

Spreading service across several bars rather than concentrating it at one is a practical choice at an event of this scale — it shortens lines and distributes foot traffic across the park rather than creating a single bottleneck.

Music

Tribute bands will perform throughout the weekend, with the Velcro Pygmies taking the stage Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

Scheduling the headliner in the middle of Sunday afternoon rather than at the close of the day is a deliberate choice for a family-oriented festival, keeping the biggest draw within the window when families with young children are most likely to still be on site.

For Families

The festival includes a large kids’ entertainment and activity area featuring a petting zoo and bounce houses.

With free admission for children 12 and under and a dedicated activity zone, the event is structured for families rather than as an adults-only tasting event — a notable distinction for a festival with tequila in the name.

Contests and Vendors

The weekend will also feature contests with cash prizes, along with artists and crafters selling their work.

Cash-prize contests at food festivals typically draw from the crowd rather than the vendors, which gives attendees a participatory element beyond eating and listening.

The Venue

Heritage Park sits on North McKenzie Street in Foley, within the city’s downtown core. The location puts the festival within walking distance of downtown Foley businesses, which regularly see spillover traffic from events at the park.

Heritage Park is one of Foley’s primary event venues and hosts a rotating calendar of festivals and community gatherings through the fall season.

Early October on the Alabama Gulf Coast typically brings warm afternoons, so shade, water and sun protection are worth planning for at an outdoor daytime event.

Saturday runs an hour later than Sunday, and Sunday’s schedule is anchored by the Velcro Pygmies performance at 2:30 p.m. Attendees who want the full vendor lineup with the shortest lines will generally find late morning the easiest window on either day.
