Baldwin County DA Hallie Dixon Will Not Seek Re-Election

Baldwin County District Attorney Hallie Dixon announced this week that she will not seek re-election, bringing an end to her tenure as the county’s top prosecutor once her current term concludes.

Dixon announced her decision in a written statement.

“After much prayer and consideration, I have decided not to seek re-election,” Dixon said. “I was elected to champion the people and to imbue your District Attorney’s office with a passion for seeking truth and justice. Having fulfilled that mission is the greatest professional accomplishment I can imagine, and I will remain forever honored to have been given that privilege.”

Dixon’s announcement means the district attorney’s race will be an open contest, without an incumbent seeking another term.

Dixon did not lay out specific plans for after she leaves office, and it was not immediately clear when her successor would be expected to take over the role.

How the office is filled

Alabama elects one district attorney for each of its judicial circuits, and district attorneys serve six-year terms. Baldwin County makes up the state’s 28th Judicial Circuit, so Dixon’s successor will be chosen by Baldwin County voters, first in party primaries and then in the general election.
