A Bayou La Batre man is behind bars this week after the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office charged him with manslaughter in connection with the death of a woman whose body was discovered lying in a roadway.
Arthur Kirkland Jr., 39, was arrested Sunday and remains in the Mobile County Metro Jail on the manslaughter charge, according to jail records.
The case began Saturday when officers with the Bayou La Batre Police Department were dispatched to 8661 Rollie Tillman Road after a female caller — possibly the victim herself — reported a disturbance and asked for help. Authorities said the call was treated as a disorderly complaint at the time it came in.
When officers arrived at the address, they spoke with a witness who said that the woman and a man who had been at the residence had already left the scene. A short time later, officers found the body of 46-year-old Amy Bosarge in the roadway on Rollie Tillman Road, not far from the home where she lived.
According to a Mobile County Sheriff’s Office news release, Bosarge had suffered injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle.
Bayou La Batre Police subsequently asked the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office to take over the investigation into her death. That investigation led to Kirkland’s arrest on the manslaughter charge Sunday.
The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office has not released additional details about what led up to Bosarge’s death or how Kirkland is connected to the case. The investigation remains ongoing.
