A man is facing multiple felony charges after authorities say he robbed employees of a CSL Plasma Center in Escambia County of their jewelry in broad daylight earlier this month. Juan Colon, 36, is charged with two counts of robbery with a firearm, attempted robbery with a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
According to the arrest report, the incident happened on Aug. 6 around 11:40 a.m. at the CSL Plasma center in a plaza in the 5000 block of Davis Highway. Three female plasma center employees were eating lunch at picnic tables in an alley when Colon allegedly pulled up in a gray Honda, got out and approached them armed with a gun, his mouth and nose covered by a mask.
The report states Colon yelled “chain, chain!” at one woman before snatching her Pandora necklace from her neck, then took her wedding ring set and Pandora bracelet, jewelry investigators valued at about $7,500. He then approached a second woman and took her gold rope necklace, gold rope bracelet, a ring with two diamond hearts, a gold thumb ring and a silver thumb ring, valued at roughly $1,400, according to the report. He also attempted to rob a third woman, but she was not wearing jewelry and he drove off, the report states.
Investigators say surveillance video from nearby businesses helped deputies trace the Honda to Auto Network, a dealership at 3901 Papa Don Blvd. Deputies found the vehicle in the lot without a tag; footage reportedly showed Colon, an employee at the dealership, removing the tag and throwing it in a dumpster. A bag containing the gun, jacket, mask and jewelry was later found inside the building, according to the report.
Colon is being held in the Escambia County Jail without bond.
