BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. — A Baldwin County man has been sentenced to 27 years in prison for the armed robbery of a convenience store in Magnolia Springs, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Alabama.
Cornell Bodiford Jr., 39, received the sentence following his conviction. He will serve five years of supervised release under the United States Probation Office after completing his prison term.
The robbery
Court documents show that on Dec. 19, 2023, Baldwin County deputies responded to a reported armed robbery at a convenience store in Magnolia Springs.
Witnesses told officers a man in a disguise approached the clerk, pointed a semi-automatic handgun fitted with an extended magazine and demanded money.
How investigators built the case
The case illustrates how quickly physical evidence can close a gap that a disguise was meant to create.
After reviewing surveillance video, investigators identified the vehicle used in the robbery and traced it to a location in Foley. Deputies found Bodiford there with the vehicle, the stolen cash and the firearm used in the robbery.
Investigators then retraced the vehicle’s route and recovered blue latex gloves discarded along the roadside. The gloves matched those Bodiford was wearing in the surveillance footage, and forensic testing matched DNA from the gloves to him.
That sequence — video to vehicle, vehicle to suspect, discarded evidence to DNA — produced a case with multiple independent points of corroboration rather than a single line of proof.
Prior record
Bodiford had several prior convictions, including second-degree robbery, third-degree burglary and domestic violence by strangulation. Prior violent felony convictions substantially affect federal sentencing calculations, which helps account for the length of the term imposed.
The case was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Alabama.

Bodiford was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Terry F. Moorer to 324 months — 27 years — in prison. U.S. Attorney Sean Costello of the Southern District of Alabama announced the sentence.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorneys George May and Tandice H. Blackwood prosecuted it on behalf of the United States.
