The City of Gulf Shores describes the series as a longstanding local tradition, and the 40th season brings a notable change: the move to the new performing arts center, which city officials say offers additional seating options for audiences.

Ted Vigil brings John Denver’s music back to life
The season opens Jan. 25 and 26 with Ted Vigil, a singer, songwriter and tribute artist known for his John Denver Musical Tribute. Vigil was born in Seattle and raised in the Olympia area. He began performing at age 10 in school concerts and in symphonic and jazz bands, developing his skills as both a drummer and a singer.
His tribute career gained momentum in 2006, when he traveled to Laughlin, Nevada, to compete in Talent Quest 2006. The competition drew performers from 28 states, New Zealand, Australia and Canada, and Vigil took first place. He went on to win a regional celebrity look-alike contest and has performed twice for John Denver’s own Windstar Foundation in Aspen, Colorado.
Vigil’s résumé also includes a Caribbean country music cruise with Darryl Worley and Jimmy Wayne on a Travelin’ Inc. voyage. In 2012, he received the Rising Legend Award from the National Traditional Country Music Association.
From 2010 to 2014, Vigil also performed with the late Steve Wiesberg, John Denver’s former lead guitar player. Wiesberg once remarked that while audiences often believe tribute artists look and sound like Denver, he did not usually see it — except with Vigil. “I see it with Ted. A very strong physical resemblance… Uncanny!” Wiesberg said.
In 2016, Vigil was part of the Kings of Country Tour in Australia, a coast-to-coast run of 20 cities that featured tribute artists honoring Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and John Denver. He now performs internationally at a wide range of venues and events and has sold out theaters across the United States. According to his promotional materials, the comment audiences most often share after a show is: “I can’t believe how much he looks and sounds like John Denver! It really took us back!”
John Denver, who died in 1997, was one of the most popular singer-songwriters of the 1970s, known for songs such as “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” “Rocky Mountain High” and “Annie’s Song.” His music remains a favorite with audiences who grew up with it and with younger listeners who discovered it later.
Chicago Rewired recreates a legendary horn-driven sound
The series continues Feb. 1 and 2 with Chicago Rewired, billed as The Premier Chicago Tribute Band. The eight-piece ensemble is based in Charlotte, North Carolina, and performs nationwide at theaters, casinos, festivals, performing arts centers and corporate events. Since 2015, the group has worked to faithfully recreate the sound of Chicago, with strong vocals, a horn section and close attention to the original band’s arrangements.
Charlotte drummer Mike Graci founded Chicago Rewired on a simple idea: that audiences deserved more than another cover band. Graci set out to assemble musicians capable of delivering the energy, precision and musicianship that made Chicago one of the most successful rock bands of all time. The result, according to the band, is a tribute production focused on capturing both the authenticity of the original recordings and the spirit of Chicago’s live shows.
Each member brings decades of professional performing experience. Audiences can expect the band’s signature brass and harmonies on songs spanning generations, including “25 or 6 to 4,” “Saturday in the Park,” “You’re the Inspiration” and “Hard to Say I’m Sorry.” The band says every performance has one goal: honor the music, celebrate Chicago’s legacy and leave the audience wanting one more song.
Chicago, which formed in the late 1960s, became famous for blending rock with a full horn section, a sound that set it apart from many of its contemporaries and produced a long string of hit singles and albums.
The Seven Wonders close the season with Fleetwood Mac
The anniversary season wraps up Feb. 15 and 16 with The Seven Wonders, a group of musicians paying tribute to the music of Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks. The band takes its name from the 1987 Fleetwood Mac song “Seven Wonders.”
Drawing on the members’ collective performing experience, The Seven Wonders aim to authentically recreate the hits fans know best, including “Dreams,” “Go Your Own Way,” “Rhiannon,” “Edge of Seventeen,” “Landslide” and “Gypsy.” The group says its onstage passion is meant to reconnect fans with the music they love.
Fleetwood Mac’s 1977 album “Rumours” remains one of the best-selling albums of all time, and Stevie Nicks built a celebrated solo career alongside her work with the band. The setlist mixes songs from both, giving the season a final night full of familiar favorites.
Why tribute shows draw a crowd
All three acts in the anniversary season are tribute performers, a style of show that has grown into its own corner of the live music world. Tribute artists focus on recreating the sound, arrangements and, in some cases, the look of famous musicians, giving audiences a chance to hear beloved songs performed live by players who have studied them closely.
For many fans, the appeal is simple: the original artists may no longer tour, or may no longer be living, and a well-crafted tribute offers a way to experience the music in a room full of people who love it just as much. The 2027 lineup leans into that idea, pairing a solo singer-songwriter’s catalog with a horn-heavy rock band and one of the most successful pop-rock groups of its era.
A new stage for a 40-year tradition
The relocation to the Gulf Shores High School Performing Arts Center is one of the biggest changes in the series’ four-decade history. The facility, located on Coastal Gateway Boulevard, was recently completed and will host all performances in the 2027 season.
City officials said the new venue offers additional seating options. That flexibility is reflected in ticket pricing, which starts at $35 per ticket. A purpose-built performing arts space also gives touring acts a stage designed for live music and theater, which can be a draw for performers and audiences alike.
For the city, the Entertainment Series has long served as a way to bring professional live entertainment to the community during the quieter winter season. Reaching 40 years is a sign of how deeply the program has become woven into local life, with many patrons returning season after season.
How to buy tickets
Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10. Individual tickets must be purchased to enter the venue. Fans can buy tickets in two ways:
- Online, beginning when sales open Nov. 10.
- In person at the Gulf Shores City Store, 1821 Gulf Shores Parkway, during regular store hours: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
All sales are final, with no refunds or exchanges, so buyers should confirm their dates before purchasing. With sales opening in early November, the shows may also appeal to anyone looking for a holiday gift for a music lover. Because each act performs two nights, fans who have a conflict with one date may want to check the other night before tickets sell out.
