Fans of the Hangout Music Festival got an early gift this week as organizers released the full lineup for the 2015 edition of the event, set to take over the beaches of Gulf Shores from May 15 through May 17. Since its debut, the festival has grown into one of the most anticipated stops on the summer touring circuit, drawing music lovers from across the country to Alabama’s Gulf Coast for a weekend built around live performances, ocean views and beachside camping.
Each January, festival organizers unveil the artists slated to perform months later, giving fans time to plan trips to the coast and giving the Gulf Shores tourism economy an early boost heading into the peak season. The 2015 announcement continues that tradition, mixing arena-level headliners with buzzy up-and-comers and genre-crossing acts.
Topping the bill this year are Foo Fighters, Zac Brown Band and Beck, joined by Skrillex, My Morning Jacket, Foster the People, Paramore and Spoon. The electronic and hip-hop-leaning side of the lineup includes Major Lazer, Krewella, Adventure Club, Lupe Fiasco, GRiZ, Gramatik and Goldroom, while Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley, Umphrey’s McGee, TV on the Radio, Phantogram and Cold War Kids round out a bill built to appeal to a wide range of musical tastes.
Also on the schedule are Future Islands, Vance Joy, Galactic performing alongside Macy Gray, ODESZA, Father John Misty, Beats Antique, Tramples by Turtles, Drive-By Truckers, St. Lucia, Robert DeLong, Toro y Moi, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, The Lone Bellow, Lake Street Dive, Rubblebucket, Iration, Frank Turner & the Sleeping Souls, Vintage Trouble and Charles Bradley & His Extraordinaires.
Rounding out the lineup are Houndmouth, Xavier Judd & the United Nations, Mary Lambert, Kopecky, J. Roddy Walston & the Business, Young Fathers, The Mowgli’s, Strands of Oak, Grizfolk, San Fermin, The Districts, Colony House, Joywave, Saint Pepsi, Elle King, MisterWives, Halsey, Knox Hamilton, Zella Day, Five Knives and Steelism, along with Mobile’s own The Suffers.
Tickets go on sale the day after the announcement, starting at $249, with VIP packages and travel bundles also available through the festival’s official website for fans looking to add extras to their weekend.
The festival, held each May along the Gulf Shores public beach, has become an economic driver for Baldwin County, filling area hotels, restaurants and rental properties during what is typically a quieter stretch before the summer tourist season fully kicks in. For the local hospitality industry, the January lineup announcement marks the unofficial start of preparations for one of the busiest weekends of the year on Alabama’s coast.
