Organizers of the Hangout Music Festival unveiled a heavyweight 2011 lineup, with Paul Simon, Foo Fighters and Widespread Panic topping a bill of more than five dozen acts set for the beaches of Gulf Shores, May 20-22.

Beneath the headliners, the second-year festival stacked its undercard deep: The Black Keys, My Morning Jacket, The Flaming Lips, Cee Lo Green, Primus, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Pretty Lights, Bassnectar, Girl Talk, Ween and Matisyahu, plus the Warren Haynes Band, Umphrey’s McGee, Slightly Stoopid, Drive-By Truckers, Old Crow Medicine Show, G. Love & Special Sauce, Medeski Martin & Wood, Galactic, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue and Portugal. The Man. Gulf Shores’ own instrumental duo Roman Street also made the confirmed list.

The festival debuted in 2010 with stages directly on the sand and thousands of walkable condominiums nearby — an experience Grace Potter of Grace Potter & the Nocturnals dubbed “Coachella on the beach.” For year two, organizers added a fifth stage under an air-conditioned tent and created Hammock Beach, a salt-water lagoon area with shade, hammocks, art installations and a Sky-Bar tower built to give 360-degree views of the grounds. VIP ticket holders gained access to a resort-style in-ground pool overlooking the main stage, complete with deck-side bar service, while families got an expanded kids’ area, late-night DJs and inter-stage shuttles.
Tickets
A limited run of three-day passes went on sale Feb. 2 at $159, stepping up to $174 once that tier sold out, with VIP and travel packages from $525 available through Front Gate Tickets, hangoutmusicfest.com and The Hangout restaurant on East Beach Boulevard. The site sits just 15 minutes from the Florida line, about an hour’s drive from both the Pensacola and Mobile airports.
