Mobile author Patti Callahan talks new novel ‘Once Upon a Wardrobe’
Mobile author Patti Callahan discusses her latest historical novel, 'Once Upon a Wardrobe,' and its ties to her earlier book 'Becoming Mrs. Lewis.'
MOBILE, Ala. — Patti Callahan may be among the most prolific authors working in Alabama today, and her latest historical novel is drawing on themes from one of her earlier works.
In the past three years alone, Callahan has published three works of historical fiction. Her newest, “Once Upon a Wardrobe,” is closely tied to her 2019 novel “Becoming Mrs. Lewis,” which explored the unusual relationship between poet Joy Davidman and author C.S. Lewis.
In between those books, she also released the historical novel “Surviving Savannah.” They follow more than a dozen contemporary fiction novels Callahan has written since publishing her first in 2004.
About the Books
“Once Upon a Wardrobe” follows Megs Devonshire, a mathematics student at Oxford in 1950, who seeks out C.S. Lewis to find out where Narnia came from for her younger brother George, who is ill. “Surviving Savannah” is built around the 1838 sinking of the steamship Pulaski off the North Carolina coast. Callahan has also published under the name Patti Callahan Henry.
