Mobile Housing Authority Poised to Hire Terrence Mixon as CEO, Ending a 16-Month Leadership Vacancy
The board is scheduled to vote Nov. 12 on finalizing an employment agreement with the former Mobile County schools administrator, who would succeed the fired Michael Pierce.
MOBILE, Ala. — More than a year after a controversial firing, the Mobile Housing Authority is close to naming a new chief executive.
The agency’s board of commissioners is scheduled to consider a resolution at its meeting Thursday, Nov. 12, to finalize negotiations and enter into an employment agreement with Terrence Mixon. Mixon previously served as assistant superintendent of student support services for the Mobile County Public School System.
Approval would end a 16-month leadership vacancy at the agency.
How the job came open
Mixon would succeed former CEO Michael Pierce, whom the board fired in July 2025 amid allegations of financial mismanagement and violations of agency policies. Pierce disputed the allegations and publicly accused then-Mayor Sandy Stimpson and others of orchestrating his removal.
The agency later agreed to pay Pierce more than $340,000 in a November 2025 settlement that reclassified his termination as a resignation in good standing.
Patricia Hoban-Moore has served as interim director since Pierce’s departure.
