Mobile police are asking for the public’s help locating a man wanted in connection with an armed robbery targeting a Murphy High School teacher. Investigators say the robbery took place before school hours on September 17, when the teacher was confronted at gunpoint.
Authorities have identified the suspect as Justin Jamar Withers. In addition to the robbery, Withers is also wanted for allegedly attempting to use the victim’s stolen debit card following the incident. He currently has an active warrant out for first-degree robbery and fraudulent use of a debit card, both felony charges under Alabama law.
According to police, Withers is known to frequent several locations around the city, including Figures Park, the McDonald’s on St. Stephens Road, and Clinton Street, where he has reportedly been seen in the afternoons. Investigators believe someone in those areas may be able to help authorities track him down.
The robbery has raised concerns among parents and staff connected to Murphy High School, one of Mobile’s largest public high schools, as officials work to reassure the school community while the investigation continues. Mobile police have not released additional details about the exact location of the robbery or the specific weapon involved, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.
