Mobile Schools Began Rehiring Some Teachers in 2008

James Bullard, May 20, 2008

Originally reported May 20, 2008.

Mobile school officials said in May 2008 that some teachers who had received layoff notices were being reassigned to classrooms.

Superintendent Roy Nichols said the early rehires were primarily in hard-to-fill areas such as math and special education, with more employees expected to return.

The report came amid uncertainty over the state education budget. This article records the staffing update reported at the time and does not describe current employment levels or school policy.
