Mobile Shopping Center Bomb Scare Found to Be Mechanical Issue in 2008

James Bullard, June 30, 2008

Mobile police responded to a report of a possible bomb in a car at a shopping center off Dauphin Street in June 2008, according to WKRG.

The driver told officers he believed someone had placed a bomb in his car because it was making a ticking sound. Police secured the area, removed the driver from the vehicle, and emergency crews evaluated him.

Police reported that no explosives were found and said the ticking sound was believed to be caused by a mechanical malfunction.

This is a historical summary of a 2008 public-safety response. It is not a current alert.
