Family-owned Myer Marine Services announced this past week that it is expanding its west Mobile facility by more than 50 percent, a growth push that will add 50 new jobs over the next several years.
The company’s $5.5 million investment will add 36,000 square feet to its existing manufacturing facility while also bringing several adjacent buildings and properties into its footprint. The expanded space is expected to let Myer Marine broaden its services and capacity through additional equipment.
As part of the expansion, the company plans to convert a recently purchased 12,000-square-foot building into a new home for its engineering department, sales team and administrative staff, separating those functions from the manufacturing floor.
Eight straight years of growth
Myer Marine Services President David Myer said the investment builds on the company’s broader ambition to become a leader in steel fabrication and machining.
“Since our founding in 2013, we have been very blessed to have continued steady growth for eight straight years, thanks to our talented and dedicated team of employees. We look forward to what is next,” Myer said.
Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce Vice President of Economic Development David Rodgers praised the company’s trajectory.
“The Myer family has the vision and drive to reach their goals, and because of that the company’s growth is ahead of schedule. It’s so rewarding to help a local company transition from a small business to a major competitor in their industry,” Rodgers said.
Bradley Myer, the company’s vice president of business development, said customer growth in the dredging and construction industries has been a particular driver behind the expansion. Founded in 2013, the steel fabrication, machining and field services company currently employs 121 people and serves clients throughout the Southeast.
A local skincare entrepreneur gets national attention
Myer Marine’s expansion wasn’t the only local business news to make headlines recently. Mobile-area business owner Krystn Keller was featured on “The Drew Barrymore Show” in a segment that aired Friday, March 26, discussing how she built her company around her son’s medical needs.
Keller’s company, Keller Works Naturals, focuses on skincare products for sensitive skin and grew out of her efforts to help her son manage severe eczema and allergies. What began as homemade remedies has since grown into a full product line — the company now serves as a local bulk soap supplier for Whole Foods Market, with products also available at Piggly Wiggly, Virginia’s Health Foods and other local retailers.
