Work begins Monday, Sept. 14, on North McGregor Avenue in Mobile, and drivers who use it should plan on lane closures through the fall.
According to a City of Mobile news release, crews will improve the road from Springhill Avenue to the roundabout on Museum Drive.
What the Project Includes

That combination is more than a repaving job. Drainage and lighting are the elements that determine whether a resurfaced road stays in good condition and whether it is usable after dark, and sidewalks change who can use the corridor at all.
Traffic Impacts
Officials said they will close one lane of traffic at a time, with detours available.
Keeping a lane open in each direction is the least disruptive approach available on a corridor like this one, though it also extends the schedule relative to a full closure.
The Holiday Window
The city built a specific accommodation into the schedule.
“The project will begin early next week with crews opening up the full roadway to traffic between Thanksgiving and Christmas,” the release said.
That is a deliberate pause. The stretch between Springhill Avenue and Museum Drive runs near heavily used destinations, and the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas carry the year’s highest traffic volumes. Reopening the full roadway for that window and resuming afterward trades a slightly longer overall schedule for a considerably less painful holiday season.
Completion
Work is expected to be completed by spring 2027.
Drivers should plan alternate routes where practical during lane closures, and pedestrians should expect sidewalk access along the corridor to change as construction moves.
