Passing Storms Trigger Power Outages for Riviera Utilities Customers in South Baldwin County

James Bullard, July 20, 2026

Riviera Utilities says a round of passing storms knocked out electric service for some of its customers Sunday afternoon, prompting crews to fan out across its South Baldwin County service area to begin repairs.

The utility posted an update and an outage map on its Facebook page showing the extent of the interruption as of about 2:30 p.m. Sunday. In its post, Riviera Utilities said crews were actively working to restore power “as quickly and safely as possible” and promised additional updates as repair work continued.

Riviera Utilities provides electric, water and other services across a large stretch of South Baldwin County, an area that regularly sees fast-moving summer thunderstorms capable of downing tree limbs and power lines with little warning. Localized outages like this one are common during the Gulf Coast’s peak storm season, which typically runs from late spring through early fall.

Customers affected by outages are encouraged to monitor Riviera Utilities’ official channels for restoration updates rather than assume service will return on a fixed timeline, since crews often have to assess and repair damage across multiple locations at once. As of publication, the utility had not provided a specific timetable for full restoration.
