A Pensacola man has been arrested on aggravated child abuse charges after a child reported being beaten with an extension cord, according to Escambia County authorities.
Julius Dees, 33, was taken into custody after the child told investigators he was ordered to undress and was then struck repeatedly with the cord. The child was left with welts on his back, chest, left shoulder and right arm, officials said.
Dees’ relationship to the child was redacted from the public arrest report, but investigators noted the case meets domestic violence criteria.
The Florida Department of Children and Families was notified of the investigation, and arrangements were made for the child to stay in his mother’s custody for the remainder of the summer.
Dees was booked into the Escambia County Jail on $50,000 bond. The charge against him remains pending in court.
