MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama hosted its final group of junior college recruits over the weekend ahead of the mid-year junior college signing period, which begins Wednesday, Dec. 19, while defensive coordinator Bill Clark interviewed for the head coaching job at Jacksonville State.
Weekend Visitors
The Jaguars’ official visitors included:
- Steffon Fuller, a 6-foot-3, 205-pound safety from East Central Community College.
- Steven Fuller, Steffon’s twin brother, who plays wide receiver, safety and cornerback at East Central.
- Montell Garner, a cornerback from Navarro College in Texas.
- Michael Jolivet, a 6-foot-4, 240-pound defensive end from Navarro.
Another cornerback canceled his planned visit to South Alabama and visited Boise State instead.
Griffin Flips to Hawaii
Mesa Community College offensive tackle David Griffin, who committed to South Alabama a couple of months ago, has switched his commitment to Hawaii following an official visit to the Warriors. As a junior college player, Griffin can sign in December and will have two years of eligibility remaining.
McClain Lists Jaguars in Top Three
Defensive tackle Jerome McClain, a 6-foot-2, 290-pound Pensacola native playing at Northwest Mississippi Community College, visited South Alabama the previous weekend and visited Memphis this past weekend. McClain said his top three schools are South Alabama, Memphis and Florida Atlantic. He is scheduled to visit FAU on Jan. 4.
Clark Among Jacksonville State Candidates
Clark, South Alabama’s defensive coordinator, interviewed at Jacksonville State on Saturday. Clark is an Anniston native and a Jacksonville State graduate.
West Alabama head coach Will Hall also interviewed, and other candidates may be under consideration. Hall, 32, recently completed his second season as West Alabama’s head coach after three years as the Tigers’ offensive coordinator. He was an All-America quarterback at North Alabama. West Alabama went 9-4 this season and won the Gulf South Conference after going 8-4 in 2011.
Tyler Siskey, also an Anniston native and a 1996 graduate of Donoho School, has expressed interest in the job. Siskey is Ole Miss’ director of recruiting development. He previously spent four years as Arkansas State’s receivers coach and served as the Red Wolves’ offensive coordinator in the GoDaddy.com Bowl after Hugh Freeze left to become head coach at Ole Miss.
“It’s home, it fits and it’s a fit on both sides,” Siskey said. “We both share the same vision, and that is to win and to win big and to win now.”
