MOBILE, Ala. — The South Alabama Lady Jaguars received an honorable mention vote in the latest ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll, recognition that follows the team’s 10-2 start to the season.
South Alabama was the only Sun Belt Conference school to receive a vote in this week’s poll.
Rare National Recognition
The vote marks only the fifth time in school history that the South Alabama women’s basketball program has received a vote in a national poll.
Last season, the Lady Jaguars received at least one vote in the national poll for three consecutive weeks, with as many as three votes in a single week.
Before that, South Alabama received a vote in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches preseason poll ahead of the 2003-04 season. During that 2003-04 season, the Lady Jaguars received two honorable mention votes in the Associated Press poll and eight votes in the coaches poll.
Connecticut on Top
Connecticut, unbeaten at 10-0, is ranked No. 1 in this week’s coaches poll with 31 first-place votes.
Ohio Visits Tonight
South Alabama hosts Ohio University tonight at the Mitchell Center in its final nonconference game of the regular season. Tipoff is set for 7:05 p.m.
