Brandon Davis Goes 11-for-11, Scores 30 as South Alabama Routs Louisiana-Monroe 90-57

Brandon Davis made all 11 field goal attempts for a career-high 30 points as South Alabama beat Louisiana-Monroe 90-57 to improve to 10-6.

MONROE, La. — Brandon Davis made all 11 of his shots from the field and scored a career-high 30 points as South Alabama routed Louisiana-Monroe 90-57 in a Sun Belt Conference game.

The Jaguars improved to 10-6 overall and 3-2 in the Sun Belt. Louisiana-Monroe fell to 5-10 and 1-3.

Coach Ronnie Arrow started a bigger lineup with three forwards, and both Davis and DeAndre Coleman recorded double-doubles.

Davis Carries First Half

Davis went 7 for 7 from the field and scored 19 points in the first half. South Alabama trailed 38-32 after a media timeout with just under eight minutes left in the period, then rallied to take a 42-37 lead into the break, with Davis scoring seven points during the surge.

Lawrence Gilbert had 14 points and Jarvis Hill 12 for Louisiana-Monroe in the first half, when Hill made 4 of 5 3-point attempts.

Second-Half Surge

South Alabama opened the second half with a 13-0 run, part of a 16-0 burst that began with a 3-pointer at the end of the first half, to lead 54-37 with 15:50 remaining. The Jaguars stretched the lead to 65-44 with just over 10 minutes left.

Domonic Tilford pushed the margin to 30 with a 3-pointer with about eight minutes to play, and his layup with just under five minutes left made it 85-48, South Alabama’s largest lead at 37 points.

Jaguar Leaders

Davis finished 11 of 11 from the field and 8 of 10 at the free throw line, with 10 rebounds, seven on the defensive end, two blocks and two steals. Tilford scored 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including 4 of 7 from 3-point range, and made both free throws. Coleman had 12 points on 6-of-12 shooting and 11 rebounds, nine defensive.

Gilbert led Louisiana-Monroe with 16 points, going 4 of 7 from the field, 4 of 6 from 3-point range and 4 of 4 at the line. Hill scored 14 on 3-of-12 shooting, including 1 of 3 from 3-point range, and made 7 of 10 free throws.

By the Numbers

South Alabama shot 64 percent from the field and 58 percent from 3-point range. Louisiana-Monroe shot 27 percent overall and 48 percent from beyond the arc, going 10 of 29 from the field in the first half and 5 of 26 in the second while scoring 20 points after halftime.
