MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama senior quarterback Cole Garvin has been suspended from the football team until further notice for a violation of team rules, USA Director of Athletics Joel Erdmann said.
Garvin was arrested on a public intoxication charge early Friday morning and was released on bond.
Garvin’s Career
Garvin has started a number of games for the Jaguars during his career. He was the starting quarterback when South Alabama defeated San Diego State at Ladd-Peebles Stadium, the program’s first win over a ranked opponent visiting Mobile.
This season, Garvin started the opener against Louisiana Tech. Last weekend against Oklahoma State, fellow senior Evan Orth made the first start of his career, and Garvin also saw playing time in that game.
Quarterback Depth
Orth started South Alabama’s most recent game. Cephus Johnson has appeared in two games and is 0-for-5 passing.
The Jaguars play Texas State on Saturday. South Alabama is a member of the Sun Belt Conference and is in its first season under head coach Steve Campbell.
