GULFPORT, Miss. — South Alabama pitchers Farish Beard and Hannah Campbell each allowed one hit Friday as the No. 14 Jaguars beat Ohio 3-0 and Nicholls State 2-1 at the Gulf Coast Classic.
South Alabama outhit its two opponents 10-2 on the day and improved to 13-1.
South Alabama 3, Ohio 0
Beard (7-1) struck out 12 Bobcats and walked one. Chloe Rathburn gave the Jaguars the lead with a solo home run, and Emily Messer drove in Taylor Rodgers and Alex Breeden to make it 3-0.
Rathburn went 3-for-6 with two RBIs over the two games, and Messer also finished the day with two RBIs.
South Alabama 2, Nicholls State 1
Campbell (4-0) struck out nine and did not walk a batter. Stephanie Pilkington scored both South Alabama runs and went 2-for-4, including her team-leading third triple of the season. Freshman Amanda Minahan went 2-for-3 with an RBI double.
Saturday Schedule
South Alabama plays two games today. The Jaguars face UT San Antonio at 2 p.m., then meet No. 12 Baylor at 8 p.m. in a matchup of top-15 teams.
