MOBILE, Ala. — No. 22 South Alabama softball brings an 11-game winning streak into its final home Sun Belt Conference series of the season this weekend against Texas State at Jaguar Field, while the Jaguars’ tennis teams compete for conference championships.
Softball Hosts Texas State
South Alabama extended its winning streak Tuesday night with a 3-2 win at Mississippi State in Starkville, Miss.
The Jaguars are 32-7 overall and 14-3 in the Sun Belt, second in the conference behind Louisiana-Lafayette (32-5, 15-3). Texas State is third at 25-19 overall and 8-6 in conference play and has won three straight.
The series opens with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday. The finale is set for 1 p.m. Sunday.
Baseball at Evansville
The baseball team (24-13) steps out of conference play for a three-game series at Evansville in Evansville, Ind. Evansville (18-15) beat Indiana 2-1 in 14 innings on Wednesday.
Probable Starters
- Friday: Right-hander Kevin Hill (5-0), who has won his last five starts, makes his seventh start of the season.
- Saturday: Austin Bembnowski (2-3) makes his sixth start.
- Sunday: Left-hander Jared Gates (3-1) starts the series finale.
Tennis Teams Seek Sun Belt Titles
Both South Alabama tennis teams open play in the Sun Belt Conference championships Friday. The women’s team is the No. 1 seed and begins play at 8 a.m. Friday. The men’s team is seeded third and opens Friday afternoon against Appalachian State.
Track and Field Returns to Auburn
The men’s and women’s track and field teams compete at the War Eagle Invitational, their second trip to Auburn this spring. Twelve teams are entered, including Auburn, Mississippi State, Troy and Kent State.
