South Alabama Volleyball Sweeps FIU, Starts Sun Belt Play 3-1

South Alabama volleyball followed a sweep of Florida Atlantic with a straight-set win over FIU, moving to 3-1 in Sun Belt play.

South Alabama volleyball beat Florida International in straight sets Sunday, moving to 3-1 in Sun Belt Conference play after back-to-back sweeps of Florida Atlantic and FIU.

The 3-1 conference record is the Jaguars’ best start since 2010.

Waelter Posts Double-Double

Sophomore outside hitter Melissa Waelter recorded her third double-double of the season with 15 kills and 13 digs.

Savannah Stewart added 11 kills for her 10th match of the season in double figures. Lindsay Schwartz had eight kills, and Olivia Mohler and Torlandria Jones had five kills apiece. Mohler also had four block assists.

True freshman Emily Hundt recorded 11 digs and a career-high four service aces.

Road Trip to Arkansas

South Alabama travels to Arkansas next for matches against Arkansas-Little Rock and Arkansas State. Arkansas-Little Rock leads the Sun Belt’s Western Division at 4-0 in conference play.

The Jaguars are in their first season under head coach Amy Hendrichovsky, who joined the program in December from Middle Tennessee.
