MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama is three days from its 2011 season opener against West Alabama, set for Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.
The Jaguars will hold two more practices, followed by a walk-through at the stadium on Wednesday before final game-day preparations. South Alabama went 7-0 in 2009 and 10-0 in 2010 under head coach Joey Jones.
Jag-Gals Social Tuesday
The first Jag-Gals social of the football season will be held Tuesday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Tacky Jacks on the Causeway.
Jones, associate athletic director Travis Toth and equipment operations manager Jeff Bailey will preview the season and discuss the Jaguars’ game-day operations.
Tickets are $15 in advance or $25 on the day of the event.
New Coach for West Alabama
West Alabama will come to Mobile under a new head coach. Longtime Division II coach Bobby Wallace announced his retirement after last season, and former offensive coordinator Will Hall was promoted to lead the Tigers.
Hall, 30, oversaw an offense that ranked third in the Gulf South Conference and 21st nationally in 2009. In 2010, the Tigers’ offense ranked 17th in the nation, and their passing offense ranked 10th nationally while averaging more than 300 yards per game.
The West Alabama passing attack will be a test for a South Alabama secondary that has been reworked during the offseason.
