President’s List
Full-time undergraduate students who earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.700 and above for the reporting term are named to the President’s List.

How Full-Time Status Is Defined
For both lists, full-time status is achieved by earning 12 credits over each 16-week term, or over paired 8-week terms grouped in fall, winter/spring and summer.
That structure is worth explaining, because it differs from a traditional semester calendar. Southern New Hampshire University operates on accelerated eight-week terms, with two paired together forming a standard term for enrollment purposes. A student carrying 12 credits across a summer grouping is doing so in a compressed format rather than across a conventional four-month semester.
Why the Local List Runs Long
Eight president’s list honorees and two dean’s list honorees from Escambia County communities is a substantial showing for a single reporting term from a university headquartered more than 1,200 miles away.
The explanation is online enrollment. SNHU is among the largest providers of online undergraduate education in the United States, and its student body is distributed nationally rather than concentrated on a New Hampshire campus. For students in small Alabama communities, that model makes a bachelor’s degree accessible without relocating.
The practical significance is meaningful in places like Atmore, Flomaton and Brewton. The nearest four-year campuses require a commute that is difficult to sustain alongside full-time work or family obligations, and accelerated online terms allow students to carry a full-time course load around a work schedule.
It is also why honor-list announcements from distant universities appear regularly in south Alabama community news. The students named are, in most cases, living and working locally.
