A Christmas tree decorated with keepsake ornaments as a tributeMobile residents honored a fallen officer with a Christmas tree of mementos.

Nearly a year after Mobile Police Officer Sean Tuder was shot and killed in the line of duty, the community found a holiday-season way to keep his memory close.

Tuder was killed on Jan. 20, 2019, while attempting to arrest 19-year-old Marco Perez. As the holidays arrived that year, a Facebook post showed a Christmas tree draped not in the usual tinsel and baubles, but in memorabilia honoring the fallen officer.

The tribute tree offered a small, personal counterpoint to the legal proceedings that continued to move through the courts, and reflected how deeply Tuder’s death remained felt across Mobile as families gathered for the season.
