A police vehicle with emergency lights activatedLocal police departments received state grants for new equipment.

Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded $48,000 in grants to the police departments in Bay Minette and Satsuma to help pay for upgraded equipment.

The Bay Minette Police Department will use its funding to purchase rifles. The Satsuma Police Department plans to buy vehicle-mounted radar systems, an electronic fingerprint scanner and additional firearms.

The money comes from funds the state received through the U.S. Department of Justice. The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grants.
