Bond was not set for a 29-year-old man charged with kidnapping and raping a woman in Mobile, after his attorney asked a judge for more time to review the allegations.

Edward Pettway appeared for a scheduled bond hearing Monday morning, but the hearing ended without bond being set. His lawyer requested additional time to further research the case against him.

What Police Say Happened

According to the Mobile Police Department, the alleged assault occurred around 3 a.m. on January 31 and began as an armed robbery. Detectives said Pettway, armed with a gun, stole a car from a man at the Bayou Bend Apartments on Brill Road. The man’s girlfriend was inside the vehicle at the time.

Police said Pettway sexually assaulted the woman before she was able to escape. He remains charged with rape and kidnapping as prosecutors move forward with the case.
