MOBILE, Ala. — Spectators packed the streets of downtown Mobile on the morning of Nov. 11, 2019, turning out in force for the city’s annual Veterans Day parade.
The procession drew active-duty service members, veterans’ organizations and local officials, including then-Congressman Bradley Byrne, who joined the crowd in honoring those who have worn the uniform.
“They have served our country, so we should have at least one day a year to turn around and say thank you,” Byrne said at the event. “Today is that day, but every day should be Veterans Day.”
Among those watching was the wife of a veteran, who summed up the morning’s spirit simply: “It is humbling to me that I get to be married to a superhero.”
Mobile has marked Veterans Day with a downtown parade for decades, and the 2019 edition continued the tradition of pairing the march with tributes to service members past and present across the Gulf Coast.
