Cypress Creek Golf Course Adds $2,000 Annual Memberships, $30 Weekday Rounds and Tuesday-Through-Sunday Hours
Mobile County's new Cypress Creek Golf Course in the Riviere du Chien community will offer $2,000 annual memberships and weekday green fees as low as $30 beginning Nov. 1, and will expand from four to six operating days a week.
MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. — Mobile County’s new Cypress Creek Golf Course is giving golfers more ways, and more days, to play.
The Mobile County Commission approved interim pricing for the 18-hole public course that takes effect Nov. 1 and includes a $2,000 annual membership and weekday green fees as low as $30. The course in the Riviere du Chien community will also expand from four to six operating days a week, opening Tuesday through Sunday.
New prices at a glance
- Annual membership: $2,000
- Weekday green fee (Tuesday through Thursday): $30, plus a cart fee
- Weekend green fee (Friday through Sunday): $65
- Cart fee: Starting at $25 for an 18-hole round
- Days open: Tuesday through Sunday, beginning Nov. 1
Under the new pricing structure, a Tuesday-through-Thursday round with a cart would cost about $55. Friday-through-Sunday rounds remain at $65.
Why the course is expanding its schedule
Cypress Creek opened to the public in late September after a multiyear construction process. Commissioner Randall Dueitt, who sponsored the project, said the course started on a limited schedule so the newly planted grass would have more time to mature.
“We were trying to give the golf course a little bit more time to grow in because it was so new,” Dueitt said. “So we’re changing the operating hours where we’ve been open Thursday through Sunday. We’re going to open now Tuesday through Sunday.”
Dueitt said course superintendent Trey Woods has since determined that the course can handle more golfers.
New golf courses typically need time after opening for turf to establish strong roots and recover from foot and cart traffic. Limiting play in the early months is a common practice to help the grass fill in before a course takes on a full schedule.
A membership built for regulars
Dueitt said the membership option is designed to save money for golfers who play often.
“If you play 50 rounds of golf, which is one round a week, then it essentially pays for itself,” he said.
At $2,000 a year, a member who plays once a week would pay about $40 per round, compared with paying weekday or weekend green fees on a round-by-round basis.
“I think the rates that we come up with are not only competitive but pretty inexpensive for the quality of the course,” Dueitt said.
The commission described the new rates as interim pricing, which suggests the fee schedule could be revisited as the course settles into regular operations.
