When reporting a sighting, police generally ask callers to provide:
- The exact location, including a street address, business name or nearest intersection
- The time of the sighting
- A description of what the person was wearing and which direction they were heading
- Whether the person was alone, with someone else or in a vehicle, and a description of any vehicle
People who want to help are encouraged to share the police department’s official alert on social media, which can help spread the word to neighbors, businesses and drivers across the Mobile area. Checking home security and doorbell cameras for footage from Monday can also be useful to investigators.
What families can do
There is no waiting period to report an adult missing in Alabama. Law enforcement agencies encourage families to call police as soon as they believe a loved one is missing, particularly if the person has a medical condition, needs medication or may be in danger. Families can help by providing police with a recent photograph, a description of clothing, phone numbers, information about the person’s vehicle and a list of places the person often visits.
The Mobile Police Department regularly asks for public help in missing person cases, and tips from residents frequently play a role in bringing people home safely.
