At about 2:47 a.m., officers tried to stop a vehicle for an alleged traffic violation on Three Notch Road near Highway 90 in west Mobile. Police said the driver refused to stop and continued north on Nevius Road, then south on Hillcrest Road, before stopping and running away on foot.

Officers caught the driver, identified as Kenneth White, 30. Police said that during the pursuit, White put a loaded gun on the floorboard. He was charged with attempting to elude, second-degree possession of marijuana and touching a loaded weapon, and was taken to Metro Jail.

Driver killed in East I-65 Service Road crash

They found a man who had been ejected from his vehicle in a single-vehicle crash. Mobile Fire-Rescue gave him aid at the scene before he was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Investigators determined the vehicle was traveling south on East I-65 Service Road when it left the roadway and struck a concrete culvert, ejecting the driver. Police said the driver’s name will be released after his next of kin are notified.

Vehicle break-ins on Carter Avenue

At about 2:30 a.m., officers responded to the 2600 block of Carter Avenue for a report of someone unlawfully entering a vehicle. They found that an unknown person had entered two vehicles parked in neighboring driveways. No arrest was reported.

Protecting yourself and your property

Several of the weekend’s incidents involved people who knew each other, a common pattern in assault cases. Police encourage residents to call 911 when disputes begin to escalate rather than trying to settle them on their own.

Vehicle break-ins remain a frequent property crime in Mobile. Police generally recommend that drivers lock their doors every time they park, take keys and key fobs inside, and keep valuables, especially firearms, out of vehicles. Exterior lighting and home security cameras can also help deter thieves and provide evidence to investigators.
