National Pro Fastpitch has reached a television agreement with CBS Sports Network, giving fans a way to follow former South Alabama pitcher Hannah Campbell and other players from the state of Alabama in the professional softball league.
Campbell, the first South Alabama softball player to reach the professional level, was selected third overall in the NPF draft earlier this year and is pitching her rookie season for the Akron Racers.
Campbell’s Rookie Season
Campbell has a 3-5 record through the first half of the season. She has pitched 30 1/3 innings, the third-most on the Racers’ staff, behind former college standouts Rachele Fico of LSU and Alison Owen of Mississippi State.
Campbell lost two of her first three professional appearances, both against the Chicago Bandits. She earned her first professional win against the Bandits on June 7.
Akron is 11-13 and sits third in the four-team league at the midpoint of the season. The Racers return to action July 11, when they host the USSSA Pride at 6:05 p.m. That game will not be televised.
Television Schedule
Under the agreement, CBS Sports Network will televise an NPF game on Mondays and Tuesdays for the next five weeks. The network will also air a game each night from Aug. 11-15, a postseason pool-play game on Aug. 20 and the league championship series Aug. 22-23.
Alabama Ties Across the League
Of the 88 players on NPF rosters, 20 played college softball in the Southeastern Conference. Campbell’s Akron teammates include Kelley Montalvo and Charlotte Morgan, who played at the University of Alabama; Olivia Watkins, who played at UAB; and Campbell’s twin sister, Lannah Campbell.
South Alabama competes in softball in the Sun Belt Conference.
